The latest news and happenings at the Nordic Museum

March—In Like a Lion

March 25, 2016

March has been an extremely busy — and fun month for the Museum. We opened Magnus Nilsson's Nordic: A Photographic Essay of Landscapes, Food, and People exhibition and hosted a lot of great programs: Breakfast at Pippi’s; Pecha Kucha; Vikings, Voyages & Volvos; Mostly Nordic, and much more.

I want to send a special thank you to all the presenters and participants, who attended our Nordic Immigration Conference last week. The conference, which took place at Hotel Ändra in downtown Seattle, explored the impact of Nordic Immigration to the Pacific Northwest from the 1850s to the 21st century. Sixteen presenters from universities and museums, in both the Nordic region and the US, presented their research projects within the topic of Nordic Immigration. A wide range of perspectives were presented and personally I learned a lot and was able to connect with many old friends and collogues. Three tours were included in the program: One tour to the Museum, where the conference participants attended a fantastic Pecha Kucha event (this year the topic was Immigration); one tour to MOHAI; and on Friday we had lunch at the Pacific Fishermen Shipyard in Ballard.

THANKS to the Nordic Culture Fund, ScanDesign Foundation, Artsfund, Seattle Office of Arts and Culture, and 4Culture, MOHAI, Scandinavian Studies at UW, Hotel Andra for supporting this successful program!

One of the presenters, Jill Morelli, wrote this summary about the conference: genealogycertification.wordpress.com
