Written December 07, 2017

Significant site-work has been conducted along NW Market Street, including the installation of landscape irrigation and utility lines; concrete pours for the curb and sidewalk; and installation of the pedestrian lights. The East Garden has been excavated, and concrete pours for retaining walls are in process.

Regarding the building envelope, the skylights have been installed, and the Cembonit siding is complete at the west, east, and north locations. The curtain wall at the west entrance is complete and only needs to receive several lights of glass before the vestibule is installed.

Over the next 30 days...

Parking lot asphalt is anticipated to be complete this week, and concrete pours at the Sun Terrace will continue through mid-December, depending on the weather. The building has received permanent power; water service will be obtained shortly. Concrete floors throughout the building are presently being polished. Installation of the bridges across the length of Fjord Hall has been initiated, and the beautiful hemlock walls and ceiling in the auditorium are nearly complete! On December 11, Pacific Studio will initiate exhibition staging and installation work inside the building.

Campaign Update

Thank you to Don and Melissa Nielsen for the generous $250,000 gift to the new Museum's capital campaign!

For the Capital Campaign, we are still actively looking to secure major gifts to help up close the gap, but every donation makes a difference!

We recently began a Nordic Spirit Coffee fundraiser with local partner Caffe Appassionato; keep an eye out for these great gifts as our retail presence expands.

Looking for a way to contribute to the new Museum right now?

How about a family gift in memory of a relative? Or perhaps your holiday shopping could be simplified by giving to the new Nordic Museum in honor of those hard-to-buy-fors on your list?

  • Give the gift of a plaque! Don't miss your chance to take advantage of this special opportunity. Each plaque will be displayed in the East Garden or streetscape areas, serving as a vital visual reminder of how our dedicated community came together to make the new Nordic Museum a reality.
  • Make a gift to the campaign! We're still seeking gifts that can be made as multi-year pledges or single donations.
  • Become a Member! Nordic Heritage Museum Members get more, especially when it comes to the new Museum! If you join now, you'll get all the usual perks, plus access to Members-only events in the month leading up to the opening and the opportunity to visit the new Museum before it opens to the public.

For more information about plaques, donations, membership, legacy giving, or other ways to support the Museum, please contact Deputy Director Jan Woldseth Colbrese at 206.789.5707 x39 or janwc@nordicmuseum.org.

We are in the final stages of the project, and we need your help to finish strong!
