Creating Design Identity through Originality & Resourcefulness

In conjunction with this year’s Taste of Iceland in Seattle, join Ingibjörg Gréta Gisladottirthe CEO and creative director of Reykjavik Runway, for a discussion on the key characteristics of the new wave of Icelandic design. As limited domestic manufacturing possibilities have made production difficult, opportunities for designers to create limited edition, handmade and bespoke items have soared in Iceland. Ingibjörg Gréta will focus her talk on how designers can capitalize on resourcefulness to scale while creating their design identity. Iceland’s informal design traditions can free designers to innovate, experiment and create high quality, limited edition products.

Ingibjörg Gréta Gisladottir is the CEO and creative director of Reykjavik Runway, a multi-faceted design and events management and marketing company. Ingibjörg Gréta has worked with fashion accessory brands like Saga Kakala, who was most notably seen on Alicia Keys on the US version of The Voice. Prior to working for Reykjavik Runway, Ingibjörg worked to produce the Reykjavik International Film Festival in 2014 and 2015. 

Ingibjörg Gréta was also the former managing director of the House of Ideas, a joint project between Reykjavik University and Iceland Academy of the Arts, where the creative industry, technology, science and business are brought together to provide support to emerging entrepreneurs. She was also a board member of the Association of Business Women in Iceland, as well as an active participant in the Icelandic start-up scene. Most importantly, Ingibjörg Gréta is a firm believer that design can change the world.
