  Veijo Pohjola is a professor in the Department of Earth Sciences at Uppsala University, and is presently the chair of the research program in Air-, Water and Landscape Science.

  Pohjola's scientific focus is within glaciology, particularly the physical processes within ice masses. Having led over 25 expeditions to Svalbard, Pohjola participates in an ice core/mass balance/ice dynamics program that covers the Svalbard Archipelago that focuses on the retrieval of climatic records since 1997.

  Recent projects include collaboration with the hydro power industry in Sweden to estimate the water volume in snow. In 2018 Pohjola was granted a project from the Swedish Energy Agency to improve the knowledge of the snow storage upstream hydro power dams, and in 2021 he received another grant to investigate how drone-based remote sensing can contribute to better prediction of hydro power production.
