  Hiski Haukkala

  Dr. Hiski Haukkala is the Director of the Finnish Institute of International Affairs. He is also an Adjunct Professor of International Relations at the Faculty of Management and Business, Tampere University, Finland, and a Senior Research Associate at RAND Europe.

  Hiski Haukkala

  Dr. Hiski Haukkala is the Director of the Finnish Institute of International Affairs. He is also an Adjunct Professor of International Relations at the Faculty of Management and Business, Tampere University, Finland, and a Senior Research Associate at RAND Europe.

  Before joining FIIA in November 2024 he was a Professor of International Relations at Tampere University. Until spring 2024 he was the Secretary General and Chief of the Cabinet at the Office of the President of the Republic of Finland. Previously he has held positions at the Universities of Turku and Tampere, the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the Finnish Institute of International Affairs as well as visiting positions at the University of Oxford, the Wilson Center (Washington D.C.), the College of Europe in Natolin (Warsaw), the EU Institute of Security Studies (Paris), the IISS (London) and the University of Stirling (Scotland). He is the author of numerous books and articles on EU foreign policy, Russia and International Relations. Dr. Haukkala is an accomplished public speaker who takes a keen interest in questions of bringing stability, order and governance into our increasingly turbulent world politics.

  John Koenig

  John Koenig retired in 2015 after more than three decades in the U.S. Foreign Service. His last post was as U.S. Ambassador to Cyprus, where he brokered the agreement to launch the latest round of UN-sponsored settlement negotiations.

  John Koenig retired in 2015 after more than three decades in the U.S. Foreign Service. His last post was as U.S. Ambassador to Cyprus, where he brokered the agreement to launch the latest round of UN-sponsored settlement negotiations.

  He previously served as Political Advisor to the NATO Joint Forces Command in Naples, Italy; as Deputy Chief of Mission in Berlin, Germany; and as Deputy Permanent Representative to the U.S. Mission at NATO. In 2011, he received the Presidential Distinguished Service Award in recognition of the policy and leadership roles he played in Berlin and at USNATO.

  Scott Radnitz is the Herbert J. Ellison Professor of Russian and Eurasian Studies in the Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies at the University of Washington.

  Scott Radnitz

  Scott Radnitz is the Herbert J. Ellison Professor of Russian and Eurasian Studies in the Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies at the University of Washington.

  His research deals primarily with the post-Soviet region on topics such as conspiracy theories, disinformation, authoritarianism, informality, and identity. Radnitz’s current project involves understanding the political and societal effects of public awareness of the threat of disinformation. Publications include Revealing Schemes: The Politics of Conspiracy in Russia and the Post-Soviet Region, Weapons of the Wealthy: Predatory Regimes and Elite-Led Protests in Central Asia, and Enemies Within: The Global Politics of Fifth Columns co-edited with Harris Mylonas.
