On assignment from Nordic House in Reykjavik, the artist duo Cooper & Gorfer explore the driving forces of creativity behind the fashion of the three island areas of the Western Nordic region: Iceland, Greenland, and the Faroe Islands. Over a two-year period, the artists collected stories among local designers and artisans, whose artistic expression has been shaped by the cultures, traditions, and surroundings of the islands. Common to the three nations are their isolation, limited resources, wild nature, and unpredictable weather. The resulting body of work is a prolific collaboration between Cooper & Gorfer and some of the most gifted designers and artists from the North Atlantic Islands.
“The Weather Diaries explores the roots of West Nordic fashion and its inimitable creativity and aesthetics under this umbrella of the strong impact of weather and nature.” —Cooper & Gorfer
