We made the difficult decision to close the National Nordic Museum as of Saturday, March 14 and will stay closed now until the state-wide "Stay at Home" order is lifted or such time as Public Health officials tell us that it is safe to do so. This is done in an effort to reduce the acceleration of the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
While we will be closed to the public, our staff continues to work as much as possible offsite on a variety of projects: the upcoming Gudrun Sjödén exhibition, rescheduling events, and adjusting programming. In compliance with "Stay at Home" we are allowed to have some essential staff onsite to maintain the Museum and protect our collections.
Our hearts go out to the people who have been affected by this virus, both here in Washington and around the world. We appreciate all the healthcare workers, first responders, and so many others who are working day and night to address this extraordinary situation.
We cannot thank our many community partners enough. From our civic leaders to our programmatic partners, we are so grateful for their counsel, advice, and flexibility.
Most of all, thank you. Your moral and financial support is vital to the Museum’s continued well-being. Nearly 70 percent of the Museum’s revenue comes from admissions, programs, events and other operations, so this extended closure will have a dramatic impact on our bottom line.
We will keep you informed through regular updates. And we are hopeful that we will be able to welcome you back to the Museum soon to celebrate and share all the offerings of the National Nordic Museum.
