Introduction to Lace Knitting

with Evelyn Clark

Knitters in Nordic countries often added lace to embellish mittens, wrist warmers, scarves, and shawls. Learn the basics of how to match yarn-overs with decreases while knitting a small sampler that can later be used as a coaster or mug mat. Students will be able to practice a variety of stitch decreases, shaping techniques, and reading charts.

Student Skills Required: Basic knitting experience

Cost: $30 for Members, $35 general admission

Supply List (to be purchased by participants ahead of class):

  • 50 yds (45 m) worsted weight yarn (such as Cascade 220 wool or dishcloth cotton yarn)
  • Appropriate size needles for yarn—usually US 7 or 8 (4.5 or 5 mm) needles
  • Tapestry needle
  • Safety pin or split ring marker
  • Scissors
