His work examines how Nordic societies have organized capitalism to pursue objectives of shared prosperity and sustainability. He compares Nordic and U.S. contexts to reveal what lessons these models offer for realizing sustainable capitalism globally. A leading expert on sustainable business, he is among the foremost voices advancing democratic capitalism as the foundation for a just and sustainable future.
Robert is the founding Executive Director of the Nordic Center at the University of California, Berkeley; Executive Director of the Center for Responsible Business at the Berkeley Haas School of Business; and Associate Professor at Copenhagen Business School. Before joining UC Berkeley Haas in 2014, Robert was an Assistant Professor at the Copenhagen Business School in Denmark, following a decade in corporate America with IBM and Boston Scientific in manufacturing, supply chain, marketing, strategy, and investor relations roles.
He holds a Ph.D. in Corporate Social Responsibility from Copenhagen Business School, an MBA in International Business from the University of Minnesota, and a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from the University of Wisconsin. Robert was a U.S. Fulbright Scholar to Norway based at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).
