Midsommar — the Nordic midsummer celebration that happens near the summer solstice — is a great time to connect with nature.

Stemming from an agrarian past, the celebrations were thought to be a time of magic and mystery. Whether you spend it dancing around a decorated maypole or feasting on a smorgasbord, bring the festivities into your home with this highly customizable DIY.

These pins are inspired by the midsommarkrans, or the midsummer wreath, which is made of the lush flowers and leaves of Summer. This is a great way to use up left over tissue paper and can be modified at any step to add your personal flair!

Supplies:

  • Tissue paper
  • Scissors
  • Stapler
  • String
  • Safety pin, hair tie, or bobby pin to wear your finished piece!

Cut Tissue Paper into equal rectangles, 4 to 5 inches in height. Lay out 3-4 pieces of tissue paper.

✨ Tip: For a more dimensional end-result, layer multiple colors of tissue paper!

Compress the accordion & staple the center.

✨ Tip: For a more varied look you can trim both ends of your accordion into a round scalloped shape, an M shape, or a V shape. This will add a wild texture to your flowers!

Gently pull apart the accordion and all the layers from either side of the staple so that it forms a flower. Fluff and scrunch the layers as needed.
