Have you been practicing Nålebinding and now you are ready to take things to the next level? Come make a hat with us!

Expand your skills and continue learning about this ancient textile art form. Nålebinding (or nalbinding), also known as “Viking knitting,” is an ancient fiber craft that predates knitting by over seven thousand years.

In this class, we will build upon the Oslo stitch you learned in Intro to Nålebinding. Students will learn the Finnish 1+2 and Finnish 2+2 stitches, working in a spiral, increasing, and how to calculate a hat that will fit.

Required materials:
  • Working knowledge of the Oslo stitch (Finnish 1+ 1)
  • Nalbinding needle
  • Worsted or Aran weight yarn (stitches are easier to see in lighter colors)

Other helpful items include: notebook and pencil, measuring tape, lockable stitch markers, and a tapestry needle.

This class is intended for students who have already taken our Introduction to Nålebinding class. Please contact programs@nordicmuseum.org with any questions.
